A Quick Ranty Rant of Christmas History Information

(Forgive any typos if there are any. Quick write)

First off, I'm an atheist. I celebrate the season, we haven't wiped out the entire planet, be thankful for what/who you have, any good fortune, etc. My family is mostly Christian so you know how that goes. They've never done the, "atheist? Then why celebrate Christmas?"  They're not asshats. They understand it's more about family and friends than celebrating Jesus. But, when it comes to what they believe I still find it funny that Christians think cutting down a tree and decorating it is a Christian custom xD It's a pagan custom! It always has been and always will BE a pagan custom. The bible strictly forbids following the rituals and customs of other nations, that means all rituals and customs that are not JEWISH tradition are FORBIDDEN.
That means:
Cutting down a tree and decorating it in your home=forbidden.
Hanging a mistletoe=forbidden
Candles in the window=forbidden
Leaving out offerings to gods/idols/figures like Santa Claus=forbidden
wreath on the door=forbidden

Lessons for the History Ignorant- Santa Claus comes from the Dutch/Nordic mythological character Sinterklaas, whose story evolved over the centuries. Most of the traits he has were adopted/incorporated from Odin, but some come from folktales of a saint. Sinterklaas had Zwarte Piet (Black Pete) as his companion. Santa riding his eight reindeer comes from the "Wild Hunt". a spectral-like imagery, usually along with storms, of a hunting party on the move with Odin leading the way on his eight-legged steed Sleipnir.

Jesus, if he was real, was not born in December. It was lumped in then because it was already a time of celebration and would make it easier to convert locals by just shoving Jesus in front of them instead.
Centuries after the alleged birth of Yeshua (Jesus) they did not celebrate his birth because he was not seen as anything other than a man. No divinity, not a god, just a human. The "Christians" of the time rejected the idea of celebrating his birthday because celebrating the supposed birthdays of important people was a pagan custom.

Gift giving on Christmas and many other customs didn't become popular or even really exist to start until around 1840s. Gifts weren't given on Christmas. They gave gifts out on New Year on it's eve or January 1st, a gift to start off the new year off. Generally, gifts were food like fruits or nuts, trinkets and other things people made by hand. As it picked up speed and people started buying more pricier and bigger gifts, they started putting them under the tree.

Pretty much everything Christians do to celebrate their holiday and claim as a "time ol' tradition" is either stolen from other religions and cultures, or is less than 200 years old.
In the US, the whole fat bearded man in a red suit didn't become a general idea/standard until around the 1920s.
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer is from a poem written in 1939 and didn't become a song until a decade later.
The hardcore Puritans'(Christians), better known as the Pilgrims the slaughter of Thanksgiving is based on, their second governor William Bradford considered singing Christmas carols, cheerful celebration, or decorations on trees a "heathen tradition" and a "pagan mockery" of a solemn Christmas.
In 1659, the General Court of Massachusetts made any observance, besides attending church, a criminal offense. People were penalized with fines just for hanging decorations. Christians were punishing/oppressing Christians who partook in time honored rituals and traditions because they wanted only THEIR version of celebration and only THEIR version of the religious observances to be recognized as the only one. When German and Irish immigrants started arriving about 160 years later, they had enough people who weren't asshats to overrule the laws. So, if Christians had their way back then, you wouldn't be decorating, singing, buying gifts, receiving gifts, partying, or enjoying yourself in any real way, because all of the things you do on/for Christmas/Yuletide is because of pagans and their traditions, their heritage, their mythologies, their ancient practices. Christians tried to stamp all of that out. So be thankful for pagans, they're responsible for your holiday cheer. Say happy fucking holidays. It's their traditions you're using, don't be an ass. Everything that you call "Christmas" is not a time honored tradition of Christianity, it's a time honored tradition of pagan rituals mixed in with modern consumerism that Christians got used to and are trying to claim as their own. They're ignorant of the history of their own damn holiday. :|

If you hadn't noticed, that's the Christians today with the imaginary war on Christmas, invented in order to try and stamp out anything that isn't what they want.
"Happy holidays" is a "war" against Christmas? :| Only the brain dead could come up with that. It's not a war. It's showing respect for others. If showing respect is hard for you because you're a Christian, you're proving just how ridiculous self centered and inconsiderate, unkind, and useless you are because of your Christianity. Or you're just a self-righteous bigoted asshole who uses your religion as an umbrella to openly be an unkind, disrespectful, and shitty person. The fact of the matter is, if you believe even an ounce of that "war on Christmas" bull, you're an idiot and a puppet to spread hate and disrespectful behavior. I have no use for human tools.

Anywho, that's all for now. Hope you enjoyed and learned a little. Adios freaks.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!
From me, Loki
